V1620494

How I recovered radio sonde V1620494 launched from Larkhill (UK)

Two in one day with an easy recovery from grass field

Whilst having coffee and cake in Alresford after recovering radio sonde V1650287, I decided to log the recovery. What I discovered was a second launch from Larkhill, V1620494, that was about to land quite near to me. I tracked it until the last message that predicted a landing near Bighton, just a few km from Alresford.

With our coffee drunk and our cake eaten, my wife and I set off for Bighton. At Bighton, I could not pick up a signal from the radio sonde. Bighton was not at the top of the hill so we proceeded to travel up hill, stopping every km to check for a signal. I picked up the signal near Upper Wield.

After parking and connecting my phone to my receiver, it was obvious where the radio sonde had landed but difficult to enter the field. I had to walk a few hundred metres before I found a gate I could climb over. It was then an easy walk through grass to pick up the radio sonde.

The track of this radio sonde is recorded on radiosonde.info.
